Can HIV/AIDS be excluded?

Has there been any legislation which requires ERISA plans to cover HIV/AIDS? Specifically, can a self-funded medical plan have an exclusion for AIDS?

Response from Ms. Franzoi

There is no legislation that mandates HIV/AIDS coverage. In addtion, self-insured plans can have exclusions for certain illnesses.
