Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people age 65 and over and for certain disabled persons. Your financial situation has no bearing on entitlement to Medicare. Medicare is avaialable to disabled persons after they have been entitled to Social Security disability benefits for 2 years (waived if you have end-stage renal disease or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). Contact your local Social Security Administration office for more information. You can also call 1-800-Medicare or go to the Medicare website www.medicare.gov for information on enrollment.
