my husband is on disability. What is the qualification to apply for medicare? Are you getting turn down if you have a house and money at the bank? He still have an insurance from his previous employer but that is good only for a year. Please tell me what to do inorder for him to have a medicare insurance. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Response from Ms. Franzoi

Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people age 65 and over and for certain disabled persons. Your financial situation has no bearing on entitlement to Medicare. Medicare is avaialable to disabled persons after they have been entitled to Social Security disability benefits for 2 years (waived if you have end-stage renal disease or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). Contact your local Social Security Administration office for more information. You can also call 1-800-Medicare or go to the Medicare website for information on enrollment.
