|Prescription Drug Coverage
Jun 6, 2005
I am HIV+ and I will be starting a new job in a few weeks. I am currently insured and I have not had any problems regarding my prescription drug coverage. My new job offers the same health plan, but a different prescription plan. How can I determine whether or not my meds will be covered without risking my privacy?
Response from Ms. Franzoi
If the new prescription drug plan is with one of the major prescription benefit managers (PBM) like Caremark, Medco, etc., you could check out their website to determine which drugs are in their formulary as well as plan design features. Even if your new Rx plan has a formulary of approved drugs, most plans will cover non-formulary drugs but at a higher co-pay by the participant.
