| eating disorders and employment Jun 9, 2004 I have been struggling with anorexia and bulimia for over 10years; the past 6months I have been doing so much better. My boss at work told me that I need to either go see a therapist and she needs to be in contact with my doctor; it is possible that I could lose my job if I don't comply. In no way has my eating disorder affected my work cycles, people have just been talking. My question: is this legal for my boss to do this? What are my rights? |

Response from Ms. Franzoi
Is your supervisor making a formal referral through an employee assistance program (EAP)? Are there performance issues? All of this is important. If something in an employee's personal life is impacting his/her job performance, an employer can make a formal referral to an EAP as a condition of continued employment. I don't have enough information from you to respond. | ||||||||||
