social security disability
Jan 29, 2004

Spouse diagnosed with AIDS 12-97 vl 200,000+, CD4 of 4 (not a typo).

Started HAART, now vl undetectable and CD4 about 350.

Has not worked since diagnosis. Afraid to apply for SSI because of "being on a list somewhere that I have AIDS".

Was self-employed at time of diagnosis as a consultant. Prior work history solid.

Can you advise about liklihood of being granted disability? Would benefits be retroactive to diagnosis?

Thanks very much.

Response from Ms. Franzoi

You should discuss this with your docotr as he would have a better idea of whether or not you would qualify.
