Response from Ms. Breuer
Active hepatitis A would be problem. Hepatitis B and C would not. There is a vaccine for hep A, and it's simple to be tested for it--call the health dept for information. If he has that one, and transmits it, it could make someone else seriously ill. In any case, he must live by the letter of the health code law: never leave the bathroom without good, thorough handwashing (hep A can be transmitted on a utensil or plate if the food handler is infected and serves with unwashed hands after using the bathroom) and immediately wash and bandage any cut. Those laws apply to every food handler.
