how common are harassment issues brought up in a workplace where someone is HIV positive and why do you think this happens

Response from Ms. Gabriel

Harassment (discrimination) is not uncommon in a workplace that has not had HIV education. Ironically, whether or not someone in that workplace has HIV doesn't make a difference. Plenty of people have experienced discrimination merely because they were suspected of having HIV or because someone they cared for was HIV+. Thankfully, the Americans with Disabilities Act protects all three from discrimination.

The best time to have workplace HIV education is before discrimination occurs. Preventing it is a lot cheaper than cleaning it up!
