| Health Insurance for HIV in Massachusetts Mar 16, 1998 I know that the laws have changed in Mass for excluding people with HIV from getting health insurance. I'm not employed and don't have coverage. Can I get coverage? Where? What kinds of coverage are available? |

Response from Ms. Franzoi
I am not familiar with the changes in the law in Massachusetts. A new federal law, HIPAA, has made it easier for individuals who have been covered without a break in coverage in excess of 63 days to purchase a policy from an insurer that offers individual policies without providing evidence of good health. However, if you have been without coverage for more than 63 days, this would not help you. My suggestion would be to check with a Blue Cross agent to see if they have a plan that would cover you. Other options would be to look into any catastrophic plans and medicaid programs offered through the state. You would have to check with the state agencies re this. Lynn Franzoi | |||||||||
