Emergency room bill - no money
May 2, 2008
I was diagnosed HIV+ a couple years ago and have been seeing a doctor recently. I have also had asthma all my life. I recently had a week-long asthma attack.
I tried to get my doctor on his emergency beeper (he never called back) and finally had to go to the ER and get oxygen.
The ER kept me waiting for 6 hours before treating me (I thought I was going to die) and then they gave me codiene and sent me on my way... I didn't complain of pain... They also gave me an emergency inhaler instead of the prescription that my old allergist recommended.
Now I got a bill for 3,000+ dollars in the mail and don't know what to do with it.
I haven't been able to work because of my depression, asthma, sleeplessness etc.
What should I do with this stupid bill?

Response from Ms. Franzoi

Do you have any health insurance? If so, submit the bill to them. If not, contact the hospital to work out a payment schedule.
