Response from Ms. Franzoi

Does your current coverage end at the end of the month in which you terminate or on your date of termination? You should determine this so you know exactly when your coverage ends. Depending on when you start your new job and the time between that date (when your new coverage goes into effect) and the date your current coverage ends, as long as you don't have a break in coverage of 63 days or more, there should be no problem. As long as you don't have a 63 day break in coverage, you won't have to worrry about any pre-existing exclusion clause. However, if the time between when your current coverage ends and your coverage with your new employer begins will be greater than 63 days, you should elect COBRA for the gap period.
