Life Insurance Lapped
Apr 24, 2008

My Military Life insurance has lapped due to non-payment. I have had this insurance for over 20 years and missed it by one week. Now I have to complete a medical examine form, I am sad to say that if I say I have HIV, I will be disqualified. Any Advise would be greatly appreciated

Response from Ms. Franzoi

You can appeal the cancellation but there would be no requirement for them to reinstate you. The other option would be to apply for another policy with an insurer that will offer coverage regardless of health status. This type of coverage is low. I believe AARP offers this through NY Life if you are age 55 or older. Mutual of Omaha, Physicians Life and Gerber Life had policies in the $3,000 - $20,000 range (varies by company).
