say the true?
Feb 15, 2008

Hello: when I learned I'm hiv+ I was self employed and qualify for the Ryan White program. Almost 1 year later I was hired by a company whit a full covered health insurance. I was suppose to be included in with no questions, but at the moment I was hired, the company was switching to a new insurance (Cigna) and they send us an application with all the questions I wish to avoid. I was in panic because the Personal Dept people will read my application, and decided answer no to the hiv and hepatitis question. I continue so far using the Ryan White program (I'm not in meds) and never using the Cigna. But because my income increase the RW probably wont accept me anymore and at the same time I'm worry Cigna will penalty me because the lie and the pre-existing condition. What should I do? What should I expect from Cigna and RW? I'm so sorry and worry about my actitude. I did't have the intention of lie or cheat, just wanted to protect my privacy. Please help me.

Response from Ms. Franzoi

Failure to answer the questions honestly has put you in this situation. I do not know what will happen. You have not provided enough information. Are you covered under a small group plan or a mid-size or large employer plan? How long have you had coverage? At the time of the application, did CIGNA have the right to refuse coverage to some employees based on their health status? Answers to these questions would help me respond. However, even with this information, I really do not know how CIGNA will handle the situation.
