Insurance as a student
Feb 13, 2008

Good Day,

I have group health insurance through my employer but plan on returning to graduate school next year. I plan on being on Cobra for the full 18 months and then possibly going on ADAP or the state insurance plan.

I have two questions.

1) Does ADAP count as creditable insurance coverage? 2) I know ADAP requires you to be below a certain income. If I have a low income because I am purposely not working because I am a student, will that count against me in deciding if I meet the income criteria. I mean will they say that since I am willingly unemployed that I don't qualify because under other circumstances I would likely have health insurance?

Thanks for your help.

Response from Ms. Franzoi

I suggest you contact ADAP in your state to inquire about this. I do not have enought information to respond. I am not sure whether or not ADAP counts as creditable coverage since it is only covers medications and varies from state to state. You also would have to inquire how they determine eligiblity.
