|Waiting period for Insurance

I am about to switch jobs from a small local company to a large national company. I read in one of the prior postings that HIPAA says there should be seemless coverage between jobs and should be no waiting period. The new employer says they have a 60 day period before anyone can sign up for their insurance. So I am a little confused. Does the new employer have to continue on with their insurance or do I have to go on Cobra coverage for a couple months before I sign up for theirs?

The new plan can have a 60-day waiting period before coverage begins. However, for purposes of a pre-existing condition clause (if it has one), the plan would have to recognize your prior coverage as creditable coverage towards this pre-existing exclusion period, unless you went 63 days without coverage. You should take COBRA coverage if you want to maintain coverage during the 60-day waiting period.
