Moving from Calif. to Texas
May 30, 2001
I will be moving to El Paso, Tx from Stockton, CA. this fall, I already have medical, medicare, SSDI and ADAP from the State of CA. So I will have to apply in TX.I don't want to move or leave CA. but it has become way too expensive too live here, so I found that City, cuz it was a lot cheaper to live than in CA. What can I expect? what will happen to my Medical & ADAP? I know every state is different?

Response from Mr. Berg

First off, please contact the local AIDS Service Organization in Texas for all the state programs that are available there. They should be able to describe what sort of HIV prescription drug service is available. You can find this organization by calling the National Aids Hotline at 800-590-2437. You could also check out a listing of HIV/AIDS services at www. hrsa.gov
In terms of your Medi-Cal, you need to contract your Medi-Cal worker and advise him/her of your move. While I'm not the expert on public benefits, it is my understanding that if Medi-Cal is given advance notice, they can temporarily honor charges while your application for Medicaid in Texas is pending. Please confirm this with your local Medi-Cal office.
