insurance denying claims

I was diagnosed on October 7th, 2008 with HIV. I had no prior symptoms and frankly was surprised by the test result. My question is, I have had a private insurance policy since before 2003 with no major claims. Now however, they are saying that this is a pre-exisiting condition, denying all claims and forwarding the invoices for the Dr, the lab work, etc to me and expecting me to pay it. Is this legal? What course of action might I have to combat this? Thanks

This does not seem legal. Contact the state insurance commissioner in your state. Blue Cross did this in Californai and was subject to fines and forced to reinstate people.
