cobra or no cobra
Apr 2, 2009

I am currently on short term disability from work due to kidney cancer. my right kidney was removed last november and I started on my 6 month std. In mid february, my employer informed that they were switching insurance plans and I had to go COBRA eventhough I am still on std. Do I have to choose that, or are the obligated to enroll me in their new plan?

Typically, once you are on STD, your health plan will end at a certain point and the only option would be COBRA. However, without information on your company's policy, i.e., when they end coverage under the active employee's health plan, I cannot answer your question. The COBRA option does not seem unreasonable.
