HIPAA Costs and Details
May 2, 2008
I am HIV + for 23 years. Undetectable with tcells around 550. Good health.
I am 52. I have been successful in my career and want to leave work in the coming year and retire. What is holding me back is health insurance.
I will exercise cobra for as long as able, but then will need to purchase health insurance.
Am I insurable under a private policy? Will it have to be a HIPAA policy? What is the cost for such a policy and do they usually cover prescriptions? I am trying to get a handle on total annual costs for my insurance.
Thank you so much for your insight.

Response from Ms. Franzoi

It will probably have to be a HIPAA policy. What the cost would be depends on where you live and the level of coverage. The best way to get an idea of cost would be to contact a local insurance broker for an estimate. You could also check a local Blue Cross website as some have calculators on the site to assist with determining cost.
