Can My Employer See?
May 2, 2008
I know you must've covered these issues but...
I just saw how much my meds cost. I also saw my co-pay compared to the thousands of dollars my employer covers.
My question is on a group plan, is my employer aware how my my meds are costing them? Does the money trail lead back to me? Is there some confidentiality in the treatment of HIV and other chronic diseases by managed care?
Also, my medical plan sent me a letter saying they were "open" to give me a case worker to consult on medical issues? They said they want to offer "resources" to members who might benefit from a partner/case manager. Naturally, I'm suspect of such an offer. Should I be?

Response from Ms. Franzoi

Your employer probably knows how much he spends on prescriptions overall as well as on specific drugs but this data would not be tied to individuals covered under the plan. The employer typically sees overall costs broken down by diesease category and/or durg.
