HIPPA policy costs
Aug 23, 2005
Are the costs for HIPPA policies regulated? I had heard that the insurance companies can pretty much charge whatever for these types of policies. Do they tend to be higher than regular group policies? I live in Georgia.

Response from Ms. Franzoi

The cost of HIPAA policies are not regulated. HIPAA policies do not require any medical evidence of good health. If you qualify for a HIPAA policy, the insurance company cannot deny you coverage even if you have a serious health condition. The only individuals who buy HIPAA policies are those who have pre-existing conditions and cannot purchase a standard-rated policy. Therefore, HIPAA policies are more expensive than standard-rated policies.
