Short Term Disability- How should I proceed?
Jul 20, 2009
Hi! I have been at my job 4 1/2 years now. I have lots accrued admin leave and vacation time. I was diagnosed positive about 3 years ago. I haven't needed to use much time in tending to my condition until recently. Doc visits, fatigue, diarhea, cloudy thinking, etc. All side affects of the meds. I was considering applying for STD to get some rest and explore options with my Doctor about resolving some of the side affects that seem to have me dragging my feet. Am I qualifed to apply?

Response from Ms. Franzoi

It depends on whether or not you qualify as disabled pursuant to the terms of the short term disability plan. You should work with your doctor to determine what your status is. If he were to designate yu as unable to work due to medical reasons, depending on the terms of the policy, you might qualify. However, most administrators of disability programs reserve the right to request a second opinion.
