Disability and CMV retinitis

I am a 48-year old female working 30 hours a week as a special education teacher confultant. From 1995-1998 (pre-protease days), I was on total disability (through employer's LTD and SSDI) due to AIDS (T4 of 13) + bilateral CMV retinitis. I voluntarily returned to work 50% then 75% once I regained my health rthrough new meds. Since 1995, my vision ha sgradually deteriorated due to complications of CMV retinitis (immune recovery uveitis, detached retina, hyphemas, cataracts, etc.) I am contemplating again applying for LTD and SSDI. I read through SS's "Blue Book" of qualifying conditions...would having previous AIDS diagnosis (I am now in the 700-900 T4 count zone with undet. viral load) + residual effects of CMV possibly qualify me or better to go for the visual loss angle? My retina specialist seems to think he could get me to qualify or SSDI...I'm not so sure.
Also, any stats on SSDI appeals overturns (if denied)? Appreciate your help.

Work your doctors (internist, retina specailist, etc.) to complile the necessary medical back-up to apply for SSDI. It is not uncommon dfor Social Secuirty to deny the initial application. However, many times it is granted upon appeal. So if you apply and are denied, you should appeal the denial.
