advice please

i work in a hospital and i have reaently been told by a college that another member of staff is hiv positive due to the spectrum of our work should our managers have informed us due to patient contact or ourselves if the person is ever injured

If you work in a hospital, your information is dangerously out of date. Here's what you and your colleague need to know:
Every person's privacy is protected. Disclosing someone else's HIV status without that person's permission is incredibly disrespectful if the person who told you is a co-worker, and illegal if the person who told you is a supervisor. Your managers have a legal obligation NOT to tell anyone else if someone is HIV-positive.
The protection you have in case of injury to everybody is called universal precautions. There are universal precaution posters all over your hospital. Find one and read it carefully--and then do what it says if ever you come across someone who's been injured.
