How to obtain prescription drugs after insurance
Jan 16, 2004
My husband and I are self-employed. I had been searching for months for answers that we needed about insurance etc. and came across your website by accident. We were so glad that we did. You had answered many questions about HIPAA insurance. Our question is this - where do we go, what can we do, what's available, on getting expensive HIV medications that you can't afford to pay out of your own pocket? Any programs? Any Help out there? What can you tell us about obtaining prescriptions?
Response from Ms. Breuer
Most states have an AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) that helps people obtain these expensive medications. You can learn about your state's ADAP program by doing a search for it on your state's government Web site. But I would suggest moving more quickly by contacting a large AIDS service organization in your state and requesting information and application forms. Every state administers the program a bit differently, so I can't give you more detail, but I encourage you to submit the paperwork as soon as you can, since some states have waiting lists. I wish you well!
