I'm pregnant & taking Hydroxyurea..... Sep 19, 2000 Please tell me how many SUCCESSFUL pregnancies have come from women taking hydroxyurea.....I am 6 weeks pregnant, have stopped taking my medication, but may have to return to taking it around the fourth month of pregnancy. HELP me please....if I have to abort this fetus, I need this information before it is too late. Thanking you in advance, |

 Hydroxyurea does cross the placenta and can cause fetal malformations especially early in pregnancy. However, I do not know the percentage of pregnancies affected when given early in pregnancy. I suggest you ask an obstetrician who specializes in high risk pregnancies. BJ Brooks Jackson, M.D. |
