| highest risk of transmission Oct 15, 2001 I read elsewhere that a pregnant mother is more likely to transmit HIV to her child if she is RECENTLY infected. Is this true? |

Response from Dr. Sullivan
Because maternal to child transmission is more frequent when a woman has a high viral load it would be more likely for a pregnant women with a recent HIV infection[ the viral load is highest in the first 6 months following infection] to transmit HIV to her infant;JLS. |
