|KNOWINGLY SPREADING HIV
Sep 10, 2001
If you suspect that a man who is very permiscuious, is knowingly spreading HIV (but you don't have concrete proof that he is spreading it deliberately ), to different women, how do you stop him? Who should you turn to for help?
Response from Dr. Aberg
You should go to your local health department to the Department of Communicable Diseases. The laws vary from state to state. Do not expect the health department to give you any information about this person or others. All information regarding someone's health status is confidential and protected by law. If you believe you have contracted HIV intentionally then you should discuss this with one of the health officers. If you suspect this is happening to others, then you should encourage anyone who may have contracted HIV to get tested and have them discuss this with the health officer. You can also discuss your concerns with your physician who will advise you what to do. This is a very serious allegation and should not be based on rumors or heresay.
