I am 37 years old and have been infected for about 20+ years. My viral load is undetectable and my t-cell is around 600. I currently take Combivir and Viracept. My husband and I want another child. Should I stop my meds for the first trimester so there is little exposure to the fetus or would you reccommend to continue my meds?

I'm concerned with deformities and I understand that one med is safe while the other can cause potential problems.

Since you are doing well on therapy and tolerating the medications, most experts would recommend that you continue treatment through pregnancy. This will not only optimize your health, but will also reduce the risk of transmitting the virus to your baby. We have a reasonably large experience with all 3 medications that you are taking and they appear to be safe for administration throughout pregnancy (including the first trimerster).
