HIV AND BABY
Aug 7, 2006

If mother is HIV positive, will baby be HIV positive too?

Response from Dr. Luzuriaga

In the absence of antiretroviral therapy, about 30% of HIV positive women will transmit the virus to their babies.Antiretroviral therapy can markedly reduce transmission; fewer than 1% of HIV positive women with undetectable viral loads on therapy transmit the virus to their babies.
