Iam 33 years old and have been HIV positive for the past 5 years, my husband has been on treatment since then and his viral load is currenlty undectable, my viral load has been +-10 000 with no significant change, I am not yet on treatment but am advised by my physician and obstetrician that if i want a baby i may have to start treatment is this adcisable?

The risk of transmitting HIV from mother to baby is related to the viral load. For example, if your viral load is greater than 100,000 copies/ml your risk of transmitting HIV to your baby is greater than 50%; if your viral load is undetectable your risk of transmitting HIV to your baby is less than 1%. It is recommended that HIV infected pregnant women receive combination therapy during pregnancy, usually beginning in the second trimester, following the pregnancy therapy can be stopped if it is not indicated based on viral load and CD 4 count.JLS.
