Aids Progression
Jan 20, 2006

Recently, my neice was diagonised with full blown aids. She was not even aware she was HIV +. She is struggling with several Opportunistic illnes. Such thrush, wasting, colitus and herpes on her mouth. Her numbers are Tcells 7 and her viral load is 999000. SHe has has just completed her first month of meds. Everything I have read indicates the life expectancy after becoming "full blown" is 3 yrs. Is this still correct or can today's medications increase the life expectancy today.

Response from Dr. Sullivan

Current treatment with 3 or 4 potent HIV drugs can have a significant impact on life expectancy even in individuals with advanced HIV disease; JLS.
