CD4 count
Mar 12, 2005

Dear Sir,

My best friend (female 24 yrs) was diagnosed with HIV positive in September 2004. Her CD4 count was 284 and viral load was 50,000. Today she had a CD4 test and her CD4 absolute count was 597. The report says CD4 count is 597cells/c.mm. Normal range 500 to 1800 cells/c.mm. Does it mean that her CD4 count is normal? Because CD4 count doubled within 3 months. Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

Thanks.

Response from Dr. Sullivan

Your friend is presumably receiving treatment with HAART and has had a good response to treatment which will be sustained as long as she is adherent to the drug regimen she is taking; JLS.
