|transmitting HIV to babies
Dec 13, 2004
I would like to know if my husband and I can infect babies by holding them, kissing them forgetting on occasion to wash hands before touching them or if the babies nibble on our fingers or knuckles...what are the risks of a child contracting HIV from us?
Response from Dr. Luzuriaga
HIV is not transmitted through holding, hugging, or kissing. The risk of transmitting the virus to a baby by putting your fingers in their mouths is also low; for many reasons, however, this is not a good idea and should probably be avoided.
