MORE HELP
Dec 3, 2004

Hello Sharon

I just read that there is a twice a day dose for viracept which is better than the three times a day dose for pregnant women which i am using today. I heard there might even be the once a day dose out will that be better than the twice a day dosage.

Response from Dr. Lee

I would strongly advise you not to change your medications, especially during pregnancy and definitely not without a full discussion with your doctor. There is no once a day dosing for Viracept and that would be extremely dangerous. There is a twice (every twelve hour) dosing regimen, but it may not be a good idea to switch to it during pregnancy. The reason that I say this is because during pregnancy women have been found to have lower blood levels of viracept than when they are not pregnant. Although twice daily may be ok, it may mean that you would want to take higher doses than the usual twice daily dose. Again, it is IMPORTANT that you talk any changes through with your doctor before trying them on your own.

Be well.
