Pregnant and HIV
Nov 18, 2004

I was recently tested hiv positive along with finding out I'm three mts. pregnant that started meds. last month. my viral load was 100,000 at time of test and t cell was 120 what are my chances at having a normal child. Also Lord have mercy my age is 49. Please answer soon. Thanks!

Response from Dr. Lee

I can't really make a guess about the percentages that you will or will not have a healthy child. But, I know that the sooner you are on medicines and the healthier you can become yourself, the better the chances for your baby. Sort of a surprise at 49! Be sure your doctor has experience in this situation. You also need protection from PCP (pneumocystis pneumonia).

Be well.
