two questions: 1.Does everybody have enlarged/swollen lymph nodes during/after ARS or is it possible that someone doesn't? 2. They say usually within 2-3 weeks after primary infection; why ARS/symptoms don't manifest immediately(within 1-st week)? Thank you very much for your responce!

When acute HIV infection occurs, the virus enters the body at the point of contact, i.e. the vagina, and spreads to the surrounding lymph nodes; it takes about a week for the virus to get into the bloodstream and then spread throughout the body into all the lymph nodes;HIV multiplies itself in the CD 4 T cells in the lymph nodes; over the next week or two, the immune system kicks in with the earliest immune responses by cytotoxic CD8 T cells followed by a B cell response which produces antibodies against HIV; it is during this phase of immune responses that the lymph nodes swell and because the immune system is rarely able to completely stop the virus from multiplying, the lymph nodes remain enlarged in someone with chronic HIV infection; if an individual is examined carefully it is nearly always possible to find enlarged lymph nodes; JLS.
