CD4 + CD8 + x = CD3 : doesn't add up
Jun 13, 2003

When we recently checked the results from the lab, it appeared that the CD3 count had dropped. The CD8 and CD4 percentage also dropped. What makes up the unaccounted 28; is the production of CD3 cells cyclical, what could cause the drop in all absolute values, and the increase in the CD2 (?) cells

Response from Dr. Luzuriaga

CD3, CD4, and CD8 counts can vary somewhat over time; intercurrent infections may also affect them. Usually, the sum of the CD4 and CD8 percentages falls within 10 percentage points of the CD3 count. If not, there may have been a probelm with the assay and consideration should be given to repeating it.
