Okay my children occasionally sit with a sitter, could they possibly get hiv if the sitter accidentally gets blood on them, how great of a risk would that be? Like on a cat scratch or cut, or a mucsous membrane if my child are heathly should i be worried about hiv with them, since i am not always with them. like if a 23 month old gets infected how should would her health start getting weaker would she have more colds then normal?
Response from Dr. Sullivan
Many studies have been done and have shown that HIV is almost never transmitted in the home setting from HIV infected parents to uninfected children or from an infected child to their uninfected sisters or brothers; even in situations where toothbrushes were shared[which is not recommended] there was no evidence of transmission of HIV; I hope this is helpful; JLS.
