| low cd4+VL Mar 6, 2001 I am a women and have been diagnosed HIV+ 2 years ago. Since then my viral load has varied from undetectable to 250 copies and CD4 varied from 400 to 500. I don't know how long I've had the virus for. I wonder what it means to have a low cd4 count and a low viral load. I don't take any medication yet. My question is why are my cd4 and VL low at the same time? Thank you for your answer. linda |

Response from Dr. Sullivan
Your viral load is indeed low while your CD 4 count is quite good[400-500]; current treatment guidelines suggest treatment be initiated when the CD 4 count is less than 350 and/or the viral load is greater than 30,000. JLS. |
