pregnant and very scared and desperate please help...
Mar 3, 2001

Good day... I am currently 37 weeks pregnant. I had unprotected sex while being 3 mos. pregnant. I recall getting lots of colds, I developed a bartholin cyst on my left side which painfully drained forcing me to go to the clinic and they found a Bacterial Vaginosis. I was on a ten day treatment, that seemed to clear the BV but due to the meds a slight yeast infection appeared. I was not given any meds for the yeast and I'm assuming it cleared on it's own. After all that was out of the way, I later developed a second Bartholin cyst on my right side. I no longer have the one on my left side but the one on the right side still remains...It is not bothersome at all...It's just there.

As a routine check a different time at the clinic I showed to be positive for vaginal strep. Also during these last weeks I've started having slight breakouts on my chin along with a small rash next to the corner of my lips.

I am so scared I know i should go and get checked...but do you think all these things are associated with HIV?? Or could they just be pregnant related??

I know all of you are so busy, and I commend you all on such a great job helping us with all the questions.

I would be so greatful to you in receiving a response.

Thank you so much for your time. God bless you

Response from Dr. Luzuriaga

All of the conditions that you mention are fairly common in HIV uninfected women and by themselves do not make me think that you might be HIV infected. I would recommend, however, that you be HIV tested, since HIV testing is now recommended as a routine part of prenatal care for ALL pregnant women (in the same way that we routinely screen for many other potential infections during pregnancy, such as hepatitis, strep, etc.).
