Response from Dr. Luzuriaga
HIV is rarely transmitted between individuals other than through sex or blood product transfusion; muscosal transmission to health care workers is usually the result of exposure to a large amount of fluids with HIV. Even in family settings, HIV transmission is extremely rare. Nevertheless, universal precautions (including gloves when in contact with a bleeding child) are recommended for day care and camp settings. If you used universal precautions, you need not worry. |
