Starting meds
Jan 5, 2005

I was infected/diagnosed 5 yrs ago and now I have to start meds. My dr. has encouraged me to research the various drugs. I'm 60, 5'5, 110 lbs. Can you suggest a beginning regimen that other women have had success with. I'm leery about the PIs. I'm thinking maybe Sustiva + Truvada. VL is 31,000 and t-cell 243. Thank you

Response from Dr. Sullivan

There are several options available; most important is that you are in the care of a HIV specialist who can counsel you on the options along with the benefits and toxicities; popular well tolerated regimens include sustiva or viramune combined with combivir; JLS.
