Low sodium levels
Dec 5, 2001

My HIV doctor recntly informed me that I have low sodium levels. Can you tell me what this means in terms of my health. Should I be eating more salt? Thankyou

Response from Dr. Fisher

Regulation of sodium levels in the blood is fairly complex and relates to kidney function, fluid intake, and the pituitary gland. You need to be evaluated to find the cause of this problem. Do not increase salt intake (this almost never helps - more likely you will have to change your fluid intake). But get this checked out ASAP. AF
