I am HIV Negative, however, my wbc is a bit low. I have chronic fatigue. My blood sugar and cholesterol levels are normal. I have fat deposits in many places in my body including my face, yet I am generally very thin. I have two questions. 1) Do patients with Lipodystrophy complain of a burning sensation in the fatty areas? (I sure do.) 2)Are there any clinical trials or resources for non-HIV Lipodystrophy? Thank you.
Response from Dr. Dieterich
There are other diseases of mitochondria, like Madelung's disease that can cause lipodystrophy-like symptoms. I have never heard of neuropathy of the fat-affected areas, but neuropathy is common. Ask your MD about other mitochondrial diseases, lactate may be elevated then too. Douglas T. Dieterich, M.D.
