| Weight Training Kills TCELLS? Mar 15, 2000 I have noticed when I don't train at the gym, my tcells go way up. When I do train my tcells won't go above 300. Is there a correlation between the two? Does muscle repair eat up tcells? |

Response from Dr. Dieterich
Dear Weight, I have not heard of this before. However, it is well known that severe training is associated with dips in the immune system. It probably depends on how hard you are training. If you are really overdoing it, it could certainly lower your t cells temporarily. However, I probably would not worry terribly about the absolute number of t cells if your viral load is under control. On the other hand, I would not advocate overtraining anyway. Douglas T. Dieterich, M.D. |
