|Does wasting start 3 months after infection?
Feb 10, 2001
I have experienced noticeable loss of lean muscle since a high risk exposure 31/2 months ago. Have tested neg on ELISA at 14 weeks but am losing muscle mass rapidly - particularly on arms / legs / buttocks [ apart from experiencing other symptoms] Is this normal/possible to start wasting so soon after infection [ I definitely was neg before ?]I have also suffered from extreme anxiety and depression since the exposure.

It sounds more like anxiety and depression is causing your weight loss. However you can ask for an HIV PCR to be absolutely sure. The Elisa at 14 weeks, though is pretty accurate. You may want to seek counselling about the anxiety and depression, this does not sound like HIV. Good luck! DTD
