| Are there any OTC Appetite Enhancers? Feb 10, 2001 Hello there: I have been a thin guy all of my life. when I graduated high school I was 5'11 and 135 lbs. Now I am 27 and 6'1" and a 145 lbs. I was hoping that there may be some sort of an appetite enhancer that i could take to help me put on the weight. People tell me it will come when my metabolism dies down but I would like to do something about it now. I am lucky if I can get my self to sit down and eat once a day. I am just never hungry. I think I take in an average of 13oo calories a day. Is there an over the counter Appetite enhancer or do I have to get a prescription? Sincerely, Lee |

Response from Dr. Fisher
Yes you would need to get a prescription because I am unaware of any effective OTC appetite enhancers. The prescription drugs used for this by people with HIV include include marinol, megace, oxandrolone, oxymetholone, and the protease inhibitors. But you would need a medical evaluation to see if you fit criteria for any of these. AF |
