|Will liposuction keep off side effect of weight or it return?
Feb 10, 2001
My partner has been on a combination therapy for 2 years now. He does light exercise at least three times a week and watches what he eats very carefully. All his wieht has gone to his stomach and he is very depressed over it. He is considering getting liposuction. Will this keep the weight off or will it return if it is a side effect from the drug therapy? His doctor really does seem to take much interest in this concern of his. Thanks for your thoughts!

HE SHOULD BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT LIPOSUCTION "TO HIS STOMACH" Most of the fat gain in the abdominal area is INSIDE the abdominal cavity and not treatable by liposuction. An abdominal CT or MRI can determine where the fat is.
We have very limited experience with LS in people with HIV-related fat accumulation. It does seem to work for buffalo humps, but reports are not completely consistent. Long-term, the fat may indeed return.
