can isoniazide prevent MTB infection? Jul 22, 1997 One of my friend, HIV+, PPD negative, has been recently admitted to hospital. In her room there was also a girl that often coughed . After three days came up that the coughing girl had an active tubercolosys. At that point doctors prescribed for my friend Isoniazide 200 mg daily for ten days to prevent infection. I know that prophylaxis must be done for a year, using at least two drugs. My concerns are: Is useful this treatment after three days of contact? Is wise to stop this drug after ten days? (resistance etc.) Is possible to know, after a very short time, if she has been infected with MTB? Which is the "window period"? One more time, many thanks !!! Alessandro |
