VIRACEPT!!!
May 25, 2001

Doc, i just started meds last month from 25th, and one of the drugs is viracept, but what happened is: i received this drug in packs of which each pack has three sections with 3 tablets each, and i didnt understand the doc well that i should be taking 5tablets eachtime, so i was only taking 3 tablets. for almost whole month but now i have realized i have to take 5tabs, can this have any effect to my body??

thanks

Response from Dr. Young

Taking 750 mg of nelfinavir twice daily is lower than the ideal dose of medication. The FDA-approved doses, as you correctly point out are 1250 mg twice daily or 750 mg three times daily.

Suboptimal doses (or adherence) can result in the emergence of drug resistant virus; though not every instance of low doses is associated with this problem.

Measuring your viral load response is probably the best way to assess if there is a problem. BY
